Syriac Orthodox Patriarch: we will stay in ME region forever

BEIRUT, (ST) _ Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All East Mar Ignatius Aphram II has called for the restoration of peace and stability to Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and to the whole region.

Speaking in Sunday sermon in Beirut, the Patriarch said:” We have been brought up in the Middle East region and we will stay in it forever.”

He added that no one has the right to destroy homes, abduct innocent people and insult their dignity. “Human rights and dignity must be protected.”

The Patriarch hoped that the abductees, including Aleppo’s Greek Orthodox Archbishop Paul Yazigiand Syriac Orthodox Archbishop Yohanna Ibrahim, will be released soon.

The two bishops were abducted on April 23, 2013, by gunmen north of Syria.
