Syrian, Polish Economic Cooperation Discussed

Warsaw, (ST) – A Syrian economic delegation led by Deputy Minister of Industry, Nidal Fallouh, discussed with vice -president of the Polish Agency for Agricultural Marketing Christina Gabriel discussed prospects of economic cooperation between the two countries.

Mrs. Gabriel, during the meeting, assured the keenness of the Agency to open new markets for Polish agricultural products outside the EU countries, including Syria, noting in this regard that the Syrian market is a promising one.

Mrs. Gabriel gave a presentation about the nature of the agency, to help specialized companies in agricultural production, orientation towards foreign markets and open new markets for Polish agricultural products, expressing her Agency’s readiness to provide expertise to the Syrian side in the field of agricultural marketing.

She also addressed an invitation to the Syrian side to participate in the agricultural equipment exhibition due to be held next March in Poland.

For his part, Deputy Minister of Industry underlined the existence of broad prospects of cooperation between the two countries, especially in the agro-industrial products such as cotton, sugar beet and others.

Mr. Fallouh explained that the situation in Syria is moving towards stability, calling on Polish businessmen to set up joint ventures and companies with their Syrian counterparts, especially in the field of agricultural equipment on the grounds that the Polish side has a lot of experience in this area.

For his part, Acting Syrian Embassy in Warsaw, Idriss Mia, noted the importance of the visiting economic delegation to Poland to re-activate cooperation between Syria and Poland, especially that the two countries have a lot of experience in this area, expressing his Embassy’s readiness to facilitate communication between representatives of chambers of commerce and industry and business process from both countries.

For their part, representatives of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Syria stressed the importance of the establishment of joint exhibitions in both countries, which contribute to the promotion of good agricultural and industrial products in the two countries.

The Syrian economic delegation also met with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of HAWI SI Group, Powell Sopko, who confirmed his company’s willingness to offer expertise in the field of communications for the Syrian side, especially that the company implemented several projects in this area, several European and Arab countries.

Mr. Sopko noted that the company has also great experience in networking operations in banks according to high-tech programs.

Mr. Fallouh pointed to the plans taken by the government to set up for the production of optic- fiber, expressing the readiness of the Syrian side to cooperate with the HAWI Company in a joint venture in this area.

For their part, members of the delegation reviewed the reality of the telecommunications sector in Syria and shed light on this sector and damages hit it, noting the need to maintain and rebuild this sector. They also called on more cooperation between the two sides in this area and to take advantage of the company’s expertise in this sector.

The Syrian industrial economic delegation expressed hope to develop relations of economic cooperation and investment between the two countries.
