Eastern Ghouta locals announce willingness to embrace reconciliation

DAMASCUS – Representatives of the locals of Eastern Ghouta in Damascus Countryside announced on Sunday their willingness to have a local reconciliation in their area, expressing however the concern of some residents who are afraid to leave the area for fear their homes might be “occupied by strangers”.

During a meeting with the People Assembly’s National Reconciliation Committee on Sunday, the locals asked for guaranteeing an exit for the families from al-Ghouta and preparing urgent makeshift centers for them where they can be supplied with the necessary humanitarian and relief aid, SANA reported.

Head of the National Reconciliation Committee Omar Ousi said it is possible to give the necessary guarantees to those who are willing to have their legal status settled and want to restore their normal lives.

Ousi stressed that the Committee is ready to receive all requests for reconciliation cases in all the provinces.

On October 7th, the Committee met local people from Joubar neighborhood in Damascus Countryside who said they were seeking a local reconciliation, but were afraid of violent reprisal from terrorist organizations.
