Any Initiative for Successful Settlement in Syria Should Be Done in Coordination with Syrian Government – Boroujerdi
DAMASCUS, (ST)-Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Head of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, has stressed that “to be successful any initiative to solve the crisis in Syria should be made in coordination with the Syrian government.”
Boroujerdi, who was speaking during a press conference on Thursday in Damascus, said that the Russian military operation against terrorist organizations in Syria, support the Syrian state and backs the efforts being exerted to attain political settlement in the country.
The senior Iranian official asserted that he visited Damascus to reaffirm Iran’s support for Syria, the country which “stands in the frontline of resistance”.
“Syria’s resistance against the terrorist aggression against the country deserves all respect and appreciation,” Boroujerdi said, adding that “aggression on Syria is satanic scheme aiming at undermining the Palestinian cause.”
He clarified that “Western and regionally-backed terrorists are coming to Syria from tens of countries and the Syrian people are fighting them to defend the dignity and security of their homeland.”
He pointed out that the only exit from the crisis in Syria can only be found through political solution, stressing that any settlement initiative made without coordination with the Syrian government will be destined to failure.
On Turkey’s anti-Syria stances, Boroujerdi said “we have rejected the Turkish policy towards Syria and repeatedly talked to Turkish officials about this. We think that supporting terrorist organizations, by training and arming them, is a grave mistake and will have very bad impacts on ground.”
“The satanic scheme targeting Syria wants the Islamic world to forget its main cause; the Palestinian cause,” Borojerdi said, stressing that this plan has failed despite the billions of dollars spent to implement it and that a third Palestinian Intifada against the Zionist occupation is looming.
