The Syrian Association for the Support of Martyr’s Families ‘Tammoz” [July] held yesterday a ceremony at the Damascus Opera House to honor hundreds of the martyr’s families on the occasion of the 42 anniversary of the October War.
As many as 2000 martyrs’ families were honored during the activity attended by Deputy Commander-in- Chief of the Army and the Armed Forces, Defense Minister Fahd Jassem al-Freij, Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi and religious, civil and artistic dignitaries.
Defense Minister delivered a speech during which he stressed that the Syrian people have the will to scarify and the will to win. “Syria, which has faced successive attacks throughout the history, will go ahead with steadfastness and will achieve victory,” he added.
We are peace seekers and not war makers
On his part, the Grand Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Ahmad Badereddin Hasson said: ” This day is the day of victory during which the late President Hafez al-Assad shone. We are peace seekers and not war makers.”
While Bishop Luqa al-Khoury said the Syrian people believe in God and in their belonging to the homeland. “They stand united in the same trench to defend the homeland”.
Following the speeches, a short film entitle ‘Word of Honor’ was screened, telling the story of an officer’s family took part in the October Liberation war.
Tammoz Association was founded by Dr. Ali Turkmani alongside a group of Syrian national youths to support the martyrs’ families.
