NEW YORK,(ST)_Czech Republic President Milos Zeman has said Syrian government faces extremist forces, including ISIS and the al-Nusra Front [Jabhat al-Nusra].
Speaking to reporters on the sideline of the 70th session of the United nations General Assembly at the U.N in New York, Zeman said the Syrian opposition recognized by the European Union has no forces fighting on the ground because the militants affiliated to the opposition have been swallowed by the extremist groups.
Asked whether President Bashar al-Assad is a part of solution, Zeman said: “is there another alternative nominee? There is no such candidate.”
The Czech President met the Syria Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Mouallem today evening in New York, according to the official news agency (SANA).
The agency quoted Zeman as saying that his country supports the Syrian people and the legitimate Syrian government.
