Abdullahian: Iran Appreciates President Al-Assad’s Role in Preserving Syria’s National Unity, Fighting Terrorism

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Iran’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hussein Amir Abdullahian has stressed that any successful plan to find a solution to the crisis in Syria must take into consideration the Syrian people’s essential role in deciding their future.

Abdullahian’s remarks were made on Thursday in a joint press conference with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad.

“Iran highly appreciates the key role of President Bashar Al-Assad in preserving national unity in Syria and in fighting terrorism, in addition to his wise leadership that guaranteed Syria’s safety from the several crises that targeted the country over the past years,” Abdullahian said.

He reiterated that Iran will keep supporting Syria, asserting that Tehran and Moscow have firm supportive stances towards the Syrian state.

“Any political plan proposed by us to find a solution to the crisis in Syria will enjoy Moscow’s support.” He said.

On the Iranian ideas about solution in Syria, Abdullahian said that during the latest visit of Foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Syria, Iran presented a paper explaining its vision about a solution in the country and included preliminary ideas put forward to President Al-Assad. Syria and Iran agreed on following up these ideas in a deep and constructive way by the foreign ministers of the two countries, he added.

He pointed out that President Al-Assad and all the Syrian officials expressed their willingness to discuss the Iranian ideas as to achieve the hoped-for results.

He urged the United Nations and concerned countries “to consider all these efforts and find suitable solutions to the crisis in Syria.”
