World Parliament Speakers Condemn All Forms of Terrorism, Stress Need to Respect International Law

NEW YORK, (ST)-Participants in the World 4th Conference of Parliament Speakers, which concluded its activities on Thursday in New York with the participation of Syria, condemned all forms of terrorism, stressing the role of parliaments in confronting the challenges facing the world countries and the need to seek building a world where wars, conflicts, poverty and hunger don’t exist.

In the conference communiqué, the participants said that despite the progress attained in the areas of democracy, peace and development, peoples are still living in unstable world where wars and savage extremist conflicts prevail.

They urged more efforts to solve conflicts through political dialogue and negotiations based on full respect of international law and by using the parliamentary diplomacy which has proved ability to push forward the efforts aiming to solve conflicts and differences.

 The parliaments of the world will spare no effort to enhance cooperation and to support the implementation of all UN resolutions, agreements on terrorism fighting and the relevant international accords in the light of growing terrorism in the world, according to the communiqué.

The communiqué called for working hard to prevent violence and put an end to its danger. They urged more efforts to attain a nuclear-free world, reduce armament and issue some legislations on fighting crimes like human and drug trafficking, illegal arm trade, kidnapping, blackmailing and money laundering.

On Wednesday and on the sideline of the conference, Syria’s People Assembly (PA) Speaker Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham met the parliament speakers of India, Mauritania and Vietnam. He discussed with them ways of boosting parliamentary ties, latest developments in the region and the world in addition to cooperation in eliminating terrorism which has become a serious threat to the entire world.
