Patriarch Lahham Urges International Community to Unite against Terrorism

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch of Antioch and All the East Gregorios III Laham has condemned the horrible crimes and inhuman acts committed by the armed terrorist organizations against the Syrian people while the world is still divided on fighting terrorism.

In a letter addressing the international community on Monday, Patriarch Lahham talked about the human disasters caused by the terrorist organizations who keep terrorizing innocent people in Syria and force them to immigrate to other countries, referring in this regard to the terrorist attack on the Syrian town of al-Qaraytein in Homs which led to the displacement of the locals and to the destruction of St. Elian Church in the town.

“The division of the world on fighting these takfiri groups is the reason behind their persistence in criminality,” Lahham said, urging the Arab world and the influential countries in the world to put an end to wars in the East, particularly in Syria and Iraq.

He called on the international community to support the Syrian and Iraqi governments in fighting terrorism as to attain peace and security in the entire region.

The patriarch warned that “the fire of violence, terrorism and takfirim will burn the entire world unless all countries are united to fight terrorism.”
