Al-Zoubi, Jannati discuss media relations to confront terrorism

Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi discussed today with  Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati means of developing bilateral media relations.

Al-Zoubi underscored the need for boosting joint media cooperation between Syrian and Iranian media institutes in order to confront the Takfiri terrorism.  

He called for forming a team work to draw up a mechanism and laws for developing work during the next stage.

“Syria is fighting terrorism, not to defend itself, but to defend Islam and countries of the region”, al-Zoubi said indicating that some Arab regimes support terrorist organizations in Syria.

On his part, the Iranian official said that his country’s strategy, since the victory of the Islamic revolution, is to back resistance axis, particularly Syria.

Media front

“Since the beginning of the crisis in Syria, Iran has believed that solution is political, not military,” Jannati said, calling for forming an international coalition against terrorism.

He asserted that the international media conference on confronting Takfiri terrorism, which will be held in Damascus on Friday, will have a great role in forming a coalition against terrorism, calling for forming a media front to face the support offered by some countries to terrorism in Syria.

Earlier today, the official news agency (SANA) reported that  Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance arrived in Damascus to take part in the two-day conference.

The agency quoted Jannati as saying that: ” the Iranian side’s participation in the international media conference in Syria aims at contributing to combating extremism in the region, particularly in Syria.”

130 media figures

The conference is to be held under the auspices of President Bashar al-Assad and it includes four sessions on the regional and international alliance in counter-terrorism, the role of media in the current wars, the importance of media in field and military work, and  future visions for mass media.

Over 130 media figures from Syria, Russia, China, Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Algeria, Morocco, Bahrain, Jordan, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Cyprus, Britain, Germany, and Kuwait will participate in the two-day event.
