DAMASCUS, (ST) _ The ministry of social affairs and Oxfam signed yesterday a cooperation agreement on social affairs issues, with the to raise awareness on the dangers of poverty and carry out sustainable development projects at the local level, mainly targeting women and children.
In a press statement, minister of social affairs Dr. Kinda al-Shammat noted the importance of the key role played by Oxfam working in Syria and the big advantage the ministry would achieve from its expertise in the social affairs issues.
For his part, director of Oxfam in Syria Moataz Adham said that the agreement comes within the framework of Oxfam expansion plan, which will cover most Syrian areas and social categories specified by the ministry of social affairs and Oxfam partners.
Noteworthy that Oxfam is an international confederation comprising 17 organizations working together with partners and had started since July 2013 to respond to the urgent need in water supply and sanitation and improving hygiene sector inside Syria.
Moreover, Oxfam first activity with the ministry of social affairs was through health education program in schools, that the organization and the ministry are working to reactivate through a range of new projects.
