Mass rally and march in Damascus on al-Quds Day

DAMASCUS,(ST)_ Palestinian resistance forces and Iran-Palestine friendship society organized on Friday a mass rally to mark the International al-Quds Day [Jerusalem Day ]and to express solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The rally was preceded by a march set off from the entrance of Souq al-Hamedeyeh [Hamedeyeh Market] in Damascus towards the Grand Umayyad Mosque.

The participants in the march raised banners that read ‘Liberation of al-Quds depends on world unity’. They underlined necessity of standing by Syria, the ‘citadel of steadfastness’.

During the rally, Secretary of the Baath Arab Socialist Party’s Damascus Branch Wael a-Imam talked about the importance of the ‘resistance axis’ in confronting occupation and aggression.

“This axis will no longer remain silent about the Zionist aggressive practices of terrorist organizations,” al-Imam said, asserting the importance of unity to confront the Israeli entity.

On his part, Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine- General Command Ahmed Jibril called for confronting the Israeli expansion plots that aim at Judaizing Jerusalem and aborting the Palestinian peoples’ right of return to their homeland.

“When we defend Syria, we defend Palestine and Lebanese resistance,” Jibril said.

Palestinian cause

Other speakers underscored that the Palestinian cause will remain the main cause for Syria and for the Arab nation, indicating that Syria’s victory over terrorism will pave the way for liberating al-Quda.

International Day of al-Quds was launched in 1979 by the Iranian Islamic Revolution leader Imam al-Khomeini in 1979 to express solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Each year, millions of people around the world stage rallies on this day to voice their support for the Palestinian nation and repeat their call for an end to the Israeli regime’s atrocities and its occupation of the Palestinian territories.
