Velayati, Boroujerdi Reiterate Iran’s Support for Syria in Confrontation of Terrorism
TEHRAN, (ST)- Iranian Supreme Leader’s Advisor for International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati has reiterated Iran’s firm stance on supporting Syria in the confrontation of terrorism and extremism.
Velayati made the remarks during a meeting on Tuesday with visiting Syrian Interior Minister Major General Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Sha’ar.
“Syria has been in the first trench in the confrontation of the Zionist entity and now it is facing this entity’s tools, mercenaries and terrorist schemes which aim to weaken the axis of resistance in the service of the Zionist-American scheme in the region,” Velayati said.
“The terrorists and their supporters won’t succeed in achieving their goals in Syria and the region despite their terrorism escalation,” Velayati added, pointing out that the Syrian people, who withstood the terrorist war and rallied around their army and leadership will triumph and foil the conspiracy against their homeland.
He asserted that terrorism and its destructive impacts will hit back in the countries which support and finance terrorism.
On his part, al-Sha’ar condemned the hostile role played by some countries against Syria through training and providing all forms of support to the terrorist organizations fighting Syria to weaken the state, destroy its infrastructure, and weaken its resistant role.
He warned of terrorism spillover in the region and the entire world if a true will to fight and eradicate terrorism and extremism is absent.
He referred to the importance of the tripartite meeting due to be held between the Interior Ministers of Syria, Iran and Iraq in Baghdad for more coordination to fight terrorism.
He hailed Iran’s leadership, government and people’s support for Syria in its battle against terrorists, stressing that “this support has enhanced the steadfastness of the Syrian people and achieved good results.”
Boroujerdi: US-led anti terrorism coalition a lie
Head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Shoura Council Alaadin Boroujerdi also met al-Sha’ar and affirmed Iran’s support for the Syrian government and people, pointing out that the sacrifices of the Syrians will lead to their victory over terrorism.
Boroujerdi asserted the true mutual will of Syria, Iran and the axis of resistance to confront and eliminate terrorism which poses serious threat to peace and security in the region and the entire world.
He said that the so-called US-led anti terrorism coalition is but a lie and a pretext to serve the terrorists and help terrorism expand in the region.
He added that training the so-called “moderate opposition” and not adopting deterrent procedures against the countries which support terrorism and facilitate the movement of terrorists encourage the expansion of terrorism in the whole world.
The Syrian Interior Minister, on his part, reiterated Syria’s determination to keep confronting terrorism whatever the sacrifices are.
“Recent criminal escalation by the terrorist organizations in Syria is but a desperate attempt to achieve gains on ground,” al-Sha’ar said.
