Syrian-Iranian health Cooperation Discussed

DAMASCUS, (ST) _ Health Minister Dr. Nizar Yazigi discussed with the Iranian ambassador in Damascus Mohammad Reza Shibani yesterday ways to promote the well-established and growing relations of cooperation between Syria and Iran and common interest to follow-up agreements signed between the two countries and practical and realistic implementation of the joint health cooperation program.

Minister Yazigi pointed the importance of cooperation in enhancing the level of health services in the light of the unprecedented pressures on the health sector, as a result of the unjust embargo imposed by the European countries and the US,, in addition to systematic targeting by armed terrorist organizations..

The minister noted that despite the suffering of the health sector, in being exposed to destruction of the infrastructure, it still provides medical and therapeutic services for citizens, pointing out that the ministry is trying to renovate health centers and hospitals that were damaged and is working to provide necessary equipments and supplies.

He highlighted Iran’s government and people positions in standing along with Syria under the current crisis and special conditions, it has been experiencing,  praising Iran’s role in providing medical and ambulatory assistance to support the health services provided to Syrian citizens in health institutions and generic drugs that are not locally produced.

“Iranian medicine has proved to be effective and competitive in world markets, known for following the world’s best quality for drug manufacturing standards,” the minister explained

For his part, the Iranian ambassador stressed Iran’s support for Syria against terrorism, expressing his desire to strengthen cooperation, especially in the field of generic drugs and to meet more needed for patients.

The meeting was attended by health affairs coordinator in Iran, Dr. Sadeq Mahdawi.
