Tehran, Moscow Underline Joint Viewpoint on Regional Developments

 

Deputy foreign minister for Arab and African Affairs and Russian president’s special representative for the Middle East affairs discussed regional developments, including the crisisin Syria and the situationin Yemen and Libya over the phone , according to IRNA.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Mikhail Bogdanov in their conversation supported the Geneva talks on Yemen and underlined the necessity of ceasing military attacks, prompt establishment of ceasefire and sending of humanitarian aids to all over Yemen.

 Considering the deteriorated situation and catastrophic human situation in Yemen, the two sides underlined that political tactics, dialogue without pre-conditions and paying attention to the result of Yemeni-Yemeni talks are the prerequisites for resolving the crisis in Yemen.

They also underlined the United Nations’ role in finding a political solution for Yemen crisis.

Amir-Abdollahian and Bogdanov also consulted on the latest developments in Syria and Libya and underlined the necessity of international effective act in fight against terrorism and departure of the region from crisis.

 

Iran, Russia discuss SCO, BRICS summit

In another context in Moscow, Iranian ambassador in Moscow Mehdi Sanaei met Russian President’s Special Representative for Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) BakhtiarKhakimov during which they discussed the upcoming summit meeting to be held in Ufa on July 9-10.

Khakimov acknowledged Iran’s political and economic potentials and hoped that with completion of Iran’s full membership, SCO can play a more effective role in regional and international developments, Iranian Embassy in Moscow said.

He also expressed the hope that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will be able to take part in the SCO summit as well as the meeting of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) leaders in Ufa.

 

The Iranian envoy termed the meeting of SCO-BRICS heads of state an important and effective one wishes for a successful event with active participation of the member states.

Sanaei referred to active participation of Iran in every SCO meetings and said its full membership can contribute to strengthening and further activating the organization at regional and global levels.

SCO is an extra-regional organization grouping 11 countries founded by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Iran, India, Pakistan, Mongolia and Afghanistan have observer status.

The goal of the organization is to expand security, economic and cultural cooperation among the member states.
