President Al-Assad: Syrians, Armenians Facing Same Challenges, Threats

DAMASCUS, (ST)- President Bashar Al-Assad has stressed that both the Armenian and Syrian peoples are facing common threats and challenges and that the Ottomans, who one hundred years ago committed massacres against the Armenian people, are now having Erdogan and his government using the same tools, mainly terrorism, against the Syrian people.

President Al-Assad was speaking during his meeting on Thursday with a delegation representing the Armenian-Syrian Friendship Association at the Armenian National Assembly.

“The parliaments which are legally elected by their peoples are now strongly demanded to move actively as to pressure the international community in order to adopt a successful policy against terrorism and extremist takfiri mentality”, President Al-Assad said, asserting that “this is not only for the sake of the Syrian people, but for the sake of the peoples of the entire world, because terrorism knows no borders and it can’t be limited to a country without another.”

Head of the Armenian delegation Tachat Vardapetyan, on his part, affirmed the Armenian people’s support for the Syrian people in the confrontation of the terrorist war waged on them by terrorist organizations backed by well-known regional countries.

He said he was confident that Syria will emerge victorious from its war against terrorism and its supporters.

Talks focused also on boosting the Syrian-Armenian friendship and parliamentary ties as to further enhance the deep political relations between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by head of the Syrian-Armenian Friendship Society at the Syrian People’s Assembly Boutros Murjana and the Armenian Ambassador in Damascus Arshak Poladian.
