Palmyra Massacre Wouldn’t Have Happened Without Certain Countries’ Support for Terrorist Takfiri Organizations in Syria
DAMASCUS, (ST)-The crimes and massacres committed by the terrorist organizations in Syria wouldn’t have happened without the huge support provided to the terrorist takfiri organizations by certain regional and international countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and Israel in collusion with some Western countries which backed these organizations to fight Syria and weaken its role in the region, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates underscored on Monday.
Addressing the UN Chief and the Security Council President in two identical letters, the ministry said “the terrorists continue to commit crimes against the Syrian state, people, history and civilization. A few days ago, the terrorist organization “ISIS” stormed the historical city of Palmyra, one of the oldest cities in the world, wreaked havoc, terrorized the people and committed horrible massacres against innocent civilians. Dozens of civilians, most of them women, children and elderly, were slaughtered by ISIS terrorists who also prevented thousands of locals from leaving their historical city, and took many families and young people to unknown places.”
The Ministry added “the Syrian government stresses that these terrorist acts wouldn’t have happened without the support given by certain countries like Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar and Israel to the takfiri terrorist organizations including ISIS, al-Nousra Front, which is now being called al-Fateh Army, the so-called Free Army and other al-Qaeda-affiliated gangs with Wahhabi mentality coming from more than 90 countries.
“Palmyra massacre comes within the framework of the armed terrorist organizations’ crimes against humanity and their acts of destroying and looting the world cultural heritage sites in Syria with the purpose of eradicating the heritage of Syria, the cradle of civilizations,” the ministry clarified.
“The terrorists are now wrecking havoc in the historical city of Palmyra under the complete silence of many parties who keep claiming day and night that they are the heroes of terrorism fighting,” the ministry said.
It added “Syria has repeatedly announced and reiterated its complete readiness to cooperate with every bilateral, regional or international effort to fight terrorism in accordance with international conventions and based on maintaining Syria’s national sovereignty and protecting the lives of civilians.”
US-led war on terrorism hasn’t achieved any of its announced goals
According to the Ministry, the declared war on terrorism, which has been continuous for almost a year, hasn’t achieved any of its announced goals. On the contrary, it allowed ISIS and other terrorist groups to expand and spread not only in Syria and Iraq but also in Egypt, Libya, some African countries and even in Saudi Arabia itself.
“The International community should adopt a decisive stance against the countries supporting and funding terrorism and takfir terrorist organizations,” the ministry said.
It called on the Security Council to confirm its commitment to fighting terrorism and extremist organizations through implementing its related resolutions particularly Nos. 2170, 2178 and 2199 away from politicization or double standard policies. The ministry also urged UNSC to cooperate and coordinate with the government of the Syrian state which has been fighting terrorism and extremism for a long time on behalf of all people of the world to defend humanity and the values of justice and freedom.
The ministry concluded its letters by affirming that the Syrian government, which will keep fighting terrorism and defending its people in accordance with its constitutional responsibilities, renews its call on the Security Council and the United Nations to adopt deterrent actions against the terrorist organizations and the countries which support and sponsor terrorism, especially Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan and some western states.
