Syrian, Iranian Pharmaceutical Cooperation

DAMASCUS,(ST) – The Minister of Industry Kamal Eddin Tomah confirmed the necessity of listing the basic pharmaceutical needs within the credit line between Syria and Iran, particularly after the destruction of a large section of the pharmaceutical industry laboratories in Syria.

The Minister, during a meeting held here yesterday evening with Head of the Syrian-Iranian Committee for the Development of Economic Relations Eng. Rustom Qasemi and his accompanying delegation, referred to “Syria’s need to a plant for the production of serums, a production line for dry syrup and bringing the Iranian drug in large containers to be bottled in Syria.”

“The importance of the credit line between Syria and Iran is to strengthen the Syrian economy, adding that the re- start of the laboratories and production as before will help to the strengthening the value of the Syrian pound,” Mr. Tomah clarified.

For his part, Eng. Qasemi noted that Iran has sufficient production for most of its needs of industries, despite the economic sanctions, adding that his country signed a large agreement with Syria regarding investment including oil, industry, minerals, agriculture, transportation and phosphate and this agreement prepares the opportunity for Iran to invest plants concerning the pharmaceutical industry in Syria.

He underlined the readiness of Iranian companies that have the ability to invest in Syria to set up plants for serums and dry syrup as well as the possibility of investing in other labs.

Eng. Qasemi pointed out to the possibility of selling Iran’s share of the Saipa to the Syrian party to benefit from the credit line, noting his country’s approval to the Iranian Khodro Company ‘Cham’ to take advantage of the credit line.
