DAMASCUS, (ST) -Minister of Interior Trade and Consumer Protection Hassan Majed Safiya discussed here recently with representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Food Program (WFP) ways of strengthening and developing relations of cooperation between the two sides and Syria’s needs of food stuff in light of the damage to the economic and social structures due to the current crisis facing this country.
Participants at the meeting, which was held recently at the ministry, reviewed Syria’s needs of wheat, flour, supplies of bread, oil derivatives, food stuff and ways to assist in the repair and restoration of grain silos, mills and bakeries that have been vandalized at the hands of terrorist, the provision of spare parts and electrical stations necessary to those facilities in addition to the reasons behind the rise in prices of food and goods.
They agreed that the ministry provides a detailed memorandum to the FAO and the WFP regarding the needs and assistance that can be provided to the Syrian people.
The Minister during the meeting clarified that “in spite of all the forms of economic blockade practiced against the Syrian people, but the government continues to provide the basic needs to citizens”, stressing keenness on developing relations of cooperation with the FAO and WFP and to open new horizons for this cooperation to meet Syrians needs.
Present at the meeting were Deputy Representative of the FAO Adam Yao, Deputy Regional Director of the WFP in Syria Adinka Badejo and senior officials in the Ministry.
