During a meeting with economic activities in Tartous, the minister clarified that the ministry has taken significant actions during the crisis at the level of foreign trade, granting full flexibility in the import of raw materials and supplies of production, allowing  the extension of import licenses, stressing the need to protect the agricultural and industrial domestic product.

He said that the conversion of the Export and Development Promotion Agency to a body that supports domestic production and exports that contributes to reducing production costs, explaining that “the priority of the ministry is currently to support livestock” and the facilities granted to the private sector in the field of dairy and milk production.

“The port of Tartous, with its importance as a Syrian major transit for export and import activities, is facing today a decline in comparison with the work of the ports of Beirut, Tripoli and Mersin,” pointing out the need how to boost trade across the port through expanding and qualifying it for the reception of large ships,” Mr. Al –Jazairi revealed.

He pointed out that Tartous, Lattakia and Sweida will see the creation of branches of the exporters’ federations as the provinces are able to export in the current circumstances, calling for activating the role of chambers of commerce and industry, agriculture and institutions of positive intervention for the marketing of products.
