The United States has allied itself with the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the world which is Saudi Arabia, says a former US Army infantryman and Iraq veteran.
“Certainly Saudi Arabia is the largest sponsor of state terror in the world and the fact that the United States is allied with them is disgraceful,” Seth Manzel told Press TV on Saturday.
He made the remarks when asked about comments by White House spokesperson Jen Psaki who said much work needs to be done in Yemen as it is still an unstable country.
On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia declared the end of “Decisive Storm” operation against Yemen, and announced the beginning of a new phase dubbed “Operation Restoring Hope” that is focused on political dialogue and delivering aid, Saudi state TV reported.
“There is remaining instability in the region, in Yemen,” Psaki said. “There’s a lot of work that needs to be done and we’re going to be doubling down and continuing to work on that with our partners around the world.”
Manzel said US involvement in Saudi aggression in Yemen certainly “shows how schizophrenic US foreign policy is.”
“The United States has been bombing Yemen for a long time, bombing specific targets in Yemen, and this just illustrates how ineffective that sort of campaign has been,” he added.
Saudi Arabia’s air campaign against the Ansarullah fighters of the Houthi movement started on March 26, without a United Nations mandate, in a bid to restore power to the country’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.
Washington has offered logistical and intelligence assistance to Riyadh.
More than 1,000 people, including women and children, were killed by the Saudi-led aggression.
