Syrian Government’s Delegation Approves Naumkin’s Agenda of Second Moscow Inter-Syrian Consultative Meeting

Moscow, (ST)- Vitaly Naumkin, Director of the Russian Institute of Oriental Studies and Moderator of the Second Inter-Syrian Consultative Meeting in Moscow, on Wednesday put forward main points for the agenda of the second round of talks between the Syrian government delegation and members of the Syrian opposition.

The main points agreed on include:

-Assessing the current situation in Syria.

 -The possibility of unifying the Syrian national forces in the confrontation of the ongoing challenges particularly international terrorism.

– Measures of building confidence between the government, the opposition forces and the civil society.

-Principles of the political process including the rules of Geneva Statement.

-Steps that need to be taken as to make progress in national reconciliation efforts aiming at attaining the hoped-for settlement.

Naumkin said “It is normal that participants in the meeting should reach and agree on the final agenda.” 

Earlier in the day, the Syrian government delegation and members of the opposition held their first session of talks during which the Syrian government side, led by Syria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari, approved the agenda.
