NEWYORK,(ST)_ Syria co-signed yesterday the UN Convention on “transparency in the arbitration treaty between investors and states” in the headquarters of the Legal Affairs and Treaties department at the UN Secretariat in New York.
On behalf of the Syrian government, the treaty was signed by Syria’s permanent representative at the UN Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari.
The said convention is concerned with the promotion of transparency in settling treaty disputes between investors and is significantly contributed to the establishment of a legal framework that allows reaching a fair and efficient settlement of disputes relating to international investment.
The UN General Assembly had adopted the said convention on December 10th, 2014, and Syria is the 9th country to have signed the treaty, following Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Mauritius, Sweden, the UK and the USA,during a ceremony, organized in Mauritius on March 7th.
