Larijani: The problems in Syria will spread by military act

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underlined Tehran’s support for democracy and opposition to military intervention in the regional states.

“We have declared repeatedly that we support democracy and its materialization in Syria and we are ready to help this trend,” Larijani said in an interview with Kuwait’s al-Ra’y TV.

 Stressing Tehran’s opposition to the use of military force to establish tranquility in the regional states, he said, “We believe occupying other countries of the region with tanks is a wrong method because no one can restore calm by means of tanks.”

Larijani said when the regional nations don’t want something, they revolt, hence, other countries should take a lesson from revolutions in the region.

Iran has always voiced opposition to military intervention in the regional states and underlined support for talks and democratic means to settle the problems.

In September 2013, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif cautioned that military intervention would only deteriorate the situation in Syria, stressing that establishment of democracy was the only solution to the problems in the Muslim country.

The Iranian minister said that foreign military intervention would complicate the Syria crisis, and exacerbate instability, terrorism and extremism in the region.

Also at the same time, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani warned the US and its allies that the crisis in Syria would spread to the whole region if any military invasion was waged against the country.

“One of the problems of the region today is that the Americans create turbulence but are not able to control it and if Syria is attacked militarily, the same trend will be repeated in the country,” Larijani said.

He underlined the necessity for a political settlement of the crises in the region, and warned, “The problems in Syria will spread by military act.”
