NEWYORK,(ST)_ Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, stressed that some arrogant countries ignore that their government’s policies toward Syria was the main reason for the suffering of the Syrian women, as a result of the involvement of these governments in the financing, training and facilitating terrorists to cross the border to Syria to commit their crimes, but after adjusting their names to “moderate opposition”.
In a statement yesterday before the 59th session of the Committee on the Status of Women at the UN headquarters in New York Jaafari said that the past four years was a turning point in the Syrian woman’s life during which, she was besieged by terrorism, extremism, killing and slaughter, kidnapping, gang rape, sexual slavery and the Wahhabi restrictions ideology, forced marriages to terrorists and foreign fighters in addition to human trafficking, whereas before that Syrian women have been role models for their counterparts in the Arab and Islamic region over decades.
Jaafari said that “after a prolonged delay, the UN Secretary-General, his representatives, the UN Security Council and the majority of UNSC Member States have admitted the reality of terrorism in Syria, but that this recognition came too late, unfortunately after claiming the lives of tens of thousands of Syrian women, children and the elderly and the worst form of suffering of other millions, the destruction of infrastructure and displacement of millions not to mention the suffering of the Syrian women and girls from the ugliest immoral Fatawa, namely the so-called “jihad of Marriage,” under the international silence, even before sides concerned with women’s rights at the UN, with thousands of girls have been victimized from Tunisia, Morocco, France, Britain, Austria, Germany, the US, Australia and Canada. “
Jaafari said that the UN represented by “UN Women ” is demanded to recognize the fatwas of ignorance and crimes committed by armed terrorist groups and to take serious action to prevent women and girls and the innocent victims of this shameful phenomenon, considering that these ideas will result in effects and violations of women’s rights around the world.
al-Jaafari added that the UN is required to provide support to the Syrian government in its efforts to empower women economically, socially and build their own capacity to be able to participate actively in the establishment and keeping of peace-community as well as the activation of their role in the reconstruction phase in Syria.
He concluded by calling on the UNSC member states to support the struggle of women in occupied Palestine and Syrian Women in the occupied Syrian Golan against the Israeli occupation, which violated their rights and prevented them from communicating with their home country.
