On International Women Day: Syrian Women Keep Struggling against Takfiris Seeking to Usurp Their Rights

DAMASCUS, (ST)-The International Women Day was marked in Syria yesterday as the Syrian society is still fighting against the extremist takfiri thinking of the armed terrorist groups which seek going back in history to the pre-stone age under the complete silence of the international community.

As one of the important components of the Syrian society, the Syrian women are struggling against this extremist mindset which aims to rob women their rights and undermine their position in society.

In some Syrian areas where terrorist groups have controlled all aspects of life, women faced big humanitarian disaster by becoming victims of violence and of different forms of physical, social and psychological transgression, necessitating that the government should exert further efforts to protect them either through trying to reach and help them or through according special psychological care to women who managed to get out of the terrorism-hit areas.

Several government parties and civil society organizations have been keen on empowering women economically and socially and on supporting their abilities to contribute to attaining and keeping peace in the society and to participate in the reconstruction era in the country.

According the Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs and the Syrian International Society for Protecting Women War Victims, women in Syria have faced dangerous violations committed by the terrorist groups in some areas. The two women organizations have worked hard to provide assistance to women affected by terrorism and specifically those who fled to camps in neighboring countries where they are subjected to various forms of violence, and human rights violations.

During the crisis new forms of violations against women in Syria emerged and were so strange to the Syrian society. The Syrian women have become victims of human trafficking, sexual abuse, and forced labor under complete silence and inaction by the international community which had better cooperate with the Syrian government to put an end to such crimes.

Despite the huge pressure caused by the terrorist acts and extremist ideas, the Syrian women keep working to play their social role to withstand crisis and to help other women overcome the negative effects of the war.
