DAMASCUS, (ST)-Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has urged the international Security Council to take all legal procedures as to implement its resolutions relating to Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan to the June 4th, 1967 borders. It also called for pressuring the occupation authorities to immediately and unconditionally release all the Syrian detainees from the Israeli jails.
Addressing the United Nations and the Security Council in two identical letters on Monday, the ministry said that Israel persists in violating all the international laws, agreements and conventions, particularly the humanitarian law.
It added that Israel keeps implementing provocative and oppressive policies against the people of the occupied Syrian Golan, pointing out that several days after committing the crime of detaining the Syrian struggler and freedom fighter “Sidqi al-Maqt”, the Israeli occupation authorities, on March 2nd, 2015, detained two other Syrian Golan citizens; Sheikh Atef Darweesh from the occupied Beq’ata village and Fidaa Majed al-Sha’er from the occupied village of Majdal Shams and confiscated their personal possessions including their mobile phones and laptops in a new and blatant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949.
“The Syrian government reiterates that the Israeli occupation’s arbitrary arrest policies come within the framework of the crimes and human rights violations Israel has been committing against the people of Golan over the five decades old occupation of the Syrian Golan,” the ministry said.
“Syria also urges the UN Chief, President of the Security Council, the Higher Commissioner of Human Rights and all human rights organizations to pressure Israel as to immediately and unconditionally release all the Syrian detainees from the Israeli jails. It also calls on the Security Council to adopt necessary legal measures to implement its resolutions relating to Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan to the June 4th, 1967 borders.
