LATTAKIA, (ST)- Lattakia Governor Ibrahim Kheder al -Salem discussed recently with a commercial and industrial Russian delegation headed by Aslan Bainc, who is Director General of Adig Urak Company, the prospects of the development of trade relations between the two countries and to take advantage of the infrastructure in the province, commercial and agricultural activity in which to activate trade exchange.
The two sides focused on the establishment of a village for exports and a laboratory for the production of agricultural equipment and tractors.
The meeting was held at the governorate building and included representatives from the Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and the commercial attaché at the Russian Federation Embassy in Damascus, Igor Matviev.
The Russian side gave proposals for cooperation in the commercial field for the transfer of surplus from the Syrian agricultural products not to Russia, but also to other countries.
Mr. Bainc called for increasing cooperation between the two countries and to strengthen trust with Syrian businessmen and find a suitable ground to stimulate trade and investment, stressing “the desire of the Russian delegation to provide all the services.
He pointed to the need to alleviate some of the taxes, fees and reduce the cost of investment to improve the work bilaterally in the interest of the two countries, noting that the delegation hopes that the visit will be fruitful, as well as the fact that “Lattakia is an important place of the business.”
For his part, Mr. Matviev pointed to the need to develop relations between the businessmen and the establishment of an effective and permanent mechanisms in this area as a practical step to implement the decisions taken at the level of the governments of the two countries and promote cooperation between them, stressing the seriousness of Russian businessmen to pay cooperation with their counterparts in Syria and creating the right climate to achieve a rapid and significant increase in the volume of trade exchange and mutual benefit.
For his part, Mr. al -Salem reviewed the elements of Lattakia province as a magnet for investment and actions that can be taken to improve economic relations and increase trade exchange.
He expressed desire to sign economic agreements with the Russian Federation and the achievement of twining between the ports of Lattakia and Novrasesc in Russia calling on businessmen in both countries to increase communication and cooperation, noting the positions of the Russian Federation in support of Syria and its people in all areas.
During the visit, the Russian delegation toured a number of agricultural productivity projects and sites proposed for the establishment of the village of exports and the other to establish a plant for agricultural equipment as well as containers and warehouses storing of food and unloading station in the port of Lattakia and project for packaging and storage of fruits and vegetables and marketing.
The Russian delegation, during the tour, asked to make proposals about the needs of Syria and specifications required in the field of agricultural equipment and tractor industry and to clarify the terms of the investment in the village of exports as well as the provision of prefabricated buildings for a plant for the production of agricultural equipment at full speed.
Mr. Bainc underlined in a statement the importance of the visit by the delegation where an advanced stage was realized that could result the signing of agreements with Syrian businessmen and farmers to export Syrian agricultural products to Russia in addition to providing some of the Syrian market needs.
Sharif al –Khatib
