Senator Vial: Siege Imposed on Syria Unacceptable

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Senator Jean Pierre Vial, member of the French Senate believes that the siege imposed on Syria is unacceptable as it worsens the suffering of the Syrian people and leads to sharp shortage in basic elements particularly medicine.

In a statement to the state news agency (SANA), Vial said the visit of the French Senate delegation to Syria was “very important”, stressing that “Syria was and still is a home for all communities and an example to be followed in coexistence and tolerance among the Syrians.”

He added the delegation visited temporary sheltering centers, international organizations, schools, hospitals and men of religion. It also held meetings with Syrian officials to discuss the situation of the Syrian-French relations.

He pointed out that France’s absence from the Syrian scene due to embassy closure should be reconsidered in order to restore ties and contacts between the two countries.

“The terrorist attacks which have recently targeted France and Europe in general have caused a shock to our peoples who thought that terrorism is a plague-like phenomenon hitting only the people in Syria and the Middle East and it won’t target them, but it was proved that terrorism will expand to reach the West,” Senator Vial said.

Concerning the solution to the crisis in Syria, Vial said “the solution exists in Aleppo initiative proposed by UN Syria Envoy Staffan de Mistura and supported by the Syrian authorities,” pointing out that this initiative should also be backed by the influential countries in the world.
