IAEA Report Indicates Peaceful Nature of Iran Nuclear Program, Says Najafi

Vienna – Iran’s Ambassador to the UN nuclear watchdog Reza Najafi has said the latest report of the IAEA about Iran’s nuclear activities reveals again the peaceful nature of the country’s nuclear program.

Najafi made the remarks on Thursday while speaking to IRNA commenting on the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) first report in 2015 about Iran’s nuclear activities.

The report said that Iran is honoring its commitments made during the talks with the six world powers in the past year.

The report was released on the eve of bilateral nuclear talks between Iran and US negotiators which is to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday to narrow remaining gaps aimed at ending a 12-year standoff with the six world powers.

“Although it was unnecessary, the report includes details about places, the number of centrifuges, their types, the amount of nuclear materials both enriched and un-enriched, the number of produced fuel plates, IAEA’s repeated inspections and taking (environmental) samples and their results,” Najafi said adding that “the Non-Aligned Movement opposed to it.

“The report still confirms the completely transparent nature of Iran’s nuclear program,” he added.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said Iran is honoring the commitment it had made voluntarily during talks over the past year with the Group 5+1.

According to Najafi, the report has nothing new comparing to the IAEA’s previous reports and “in 90 percent repeats its previous stances with new figures.”

“Even the sentences are the same as written in the previous reports,” said the diplomat.

He noted, “Mentioning again the previous accusations known as the Possible Military Dimensions (PMD) of Iran’s nuclear program will not give more credit to the agency’s claims.”

“The only new issue mentioned in the report was about a recent meeting between the IAEA Director General (Yukiya Amano) and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif which has taken place on the sidelines of a security conference in Munich,” Najafi said adding, “The contacts are to be continued.

“To this end, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is to meet Amano after the upcoming talks in Geneva.”

Iran does not allow foreign gov’ts to dictate something, says Boroujerdi

On the other hand in Kashan, Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Thursday that Iran does not allow foreign governments to dictate something.

The Islamic Republic of Iran under huge economic sanctions could attain success in various fields and there is no doubt that Iran possesses top status in the world in terms of missile capabilities.

Iranian nation gave many martyrs to attain independence, freedom and dignity, he said.

The great Iranian nation under no circumstances will allow the foreign governments to dictate something about national affairs, he underlined.

Iran has successfully passed 36 years of economic sanctions and that the sanctions had nothing to do with the country’s nuclear program, they were imposed after seizure of US den of spy, he said.

All scientific breakthrough in the fields of missile, nuclear, nanotechnology and space occurred while the country was under tough economic sanctions, he said.
