UNSC Unanimously adopts Resolution to cut off Funding for “Daesh , al-Nusra Front ” and Other Terrorist Organizations

NEWYORK,(ST)_  The UN Security Council unanimously adopted yesterday  resolution number 2199  to cut off funding for “Daesh and al-Nusra front ” and other terrorist organizations through selling  oil and stolen antiquities and ransom.

The said resolution criminalizes all who buy oil from “Daesh and al-Nusra front ” and other extremist organizations, which have links to al-Qaeda and also demands bringing those who are involved in such acts to justice as involved  with terrorism.

Following the vote, the Russian  Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, described  the resolution  as “an important step to cut off terrorist funding  which directly comes from the illicit trade in oil,” adding that the resolution  aims to “cut off terrorist threats plaguing Syria, Iraq and other countries and work to address them.”

 

In turn, the Chinese  Permanent Representative to the UN  Liu Jie Yi stressed his country welcomes the adoption of the resolution, which is of paramount importance in  coordinating the international community’s efforts in the fight against terrorism , expressing  hope that the UN Security Council will implement  the resolution in full , as well as UNSC resolutions 2170 and 2178, taken earlier, condemning all terrorist acts.

The Chinese representative called on  the international community to strengthen efforts and implement  policies in an integrated manner  so as to cut all channels of using the  Internet by these organizations, which spread its culture and its extremist ideology and inciting terrorist practices and also receive funding through these channels .
