Russian FM: de Mistura Valued Moscow Consultative Meeting, Highly

MOSCOW, (ST) _ The Russian Foreign Ministry has announced that the UN special envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, highly valued the consultative meeting between the Syrian government delegation and opposition figures, held in Moscow on January 26 through 29th.

In a statement yesterday, quoted by Russia Today website, the ministry said “that this came in a meeting between de Mistura, and the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the security summit in Munich, Germany.”

” Lavrov and de Mistura discussed ways to implement de Mistura plan provided for  freezing fighting  in Syria through local reconciliations and  the need to consolidate efforts in fighting  terrorism in the region,” according to the statement.

However,  sessions of the consultative preliminary meeting between the Syrian  delegation and opposition figures were  concluded in Moscow by the end of  late January by  approving a of set  principles proposed by Russia as “the principles of Moscow” focused on maintaining Syria’s sovereignty and  unity, fighting  all forms of  terrorism, resolving the crisis by peaceful political means, rejecting any foreign intervention and preserving  the army and armed forces as a symbol of national unity and promoting  state-owned  institutions.
