Syria Calls on UNSC to condemn Terrorists targeting Damascus Neighborhoods with Rocket-Propelled Grenades, hold their Supporters Accountable
DAMASCUS,(ST)_ In two identical letters to each of the Chairman of the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General on armed terrorist groups targeting on Sunday Damascus neighborhood city with scores of rocket-propelled grenades, the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry demanded condemnation of these acts of terrorism and take action to hold accountable the perpetrators and those who stand behind them, including regional and world countries and powers, especially Saudi Arabia, Turkey, France and Qatar.
According to the letters, “the city of Damascus witnessed on Sunday, January 25, 2015 random missile explosions that targeted safe civilian neighborhoods and their children women and innocent elderly, fired by armed terrorist including more than 40 rocket-propelled grenade of 107 mm caliber and Katyusha mortar against several safe residential areas in the capital Damascus including homes, hospitals, schools and official headquarters of embassies and international organizations resulted in the death of six civilians, and wounding more than 53 others, including many children and resulted in heavy material losses.
The statement added that these terrorist acts were adopted by the so-called terrorist “Army of Islam” as its leader Zahran Aloush announced via the social networking to that ” missiles brigade is ready to launch missile campaign on the capital Damascus, and that in order to preserve the lives of Muslims living in the capital he embargoed going to work or going out as from Sunday.”
The letters explained that these latest terrorist acts are part of the continuing similar terrorist bombings series against the Syrian provinces since four years, at the hands of mercenary gangs hired by countries in the region and beyond, especially by Saudi Arabia and France, which provide material and logistical support to terrorists and media coverage to justify their criminality.
In this context, the messages continued that the Syrian Government confirms that these cowardly terrorist acts that targeted civilians at the peak of their daily activities, while students are going to school and employees to their work will not succeed in undermining the Syrian people steadfastness in defense for independence, sovereignty, freedom and dignity.
The two letters underlined that Syria reiterated its demand of the UN Security Council to condemn the terrorist acts and to take the necessary measures to hold accountable the perpetrators and those who stand behind them, especially regional and international countries including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, France and Qatar, which openly boast their support for those armed terrorist groups and provide shelter, haven and training for the implementers.
“ Syria is demanding the inclusion of these armed terrorist groups which wreak havoc in Syria and the region and have become endangering to all countries of the world on the UNSC lists of the Counter-Terrorism Committee, “ the letters read.
