Venezuelan Elections, Challenge to Consolidate Socialism

The challenge of the Venezuelan elections on Sunday is to consolidate the existing socialist spaces and create others to improve the efficiency and quality of the government management, Electric Power Minister Hector Navarro said on Friday.

Interviewed by a state-run television channel, the minister recalled President Hugo Chavez’ call to be more efficient, because for the productive model to help us carry out the process of changes the country is going through, we have to be much more productive and efficient, he said, according to Prensa Latina.

In his opinion, Venezuela is going through times that leave a mark in the peoples’ history and in that context, he defined Chavismo as “an expression of the people’s aspirations and projects.”

Navarro asserted that everything is ready to guarantee electrical service to the voting centers, in which 36,220 voting machines to receive the votes of 17,421,946 electors.

In the elections on Sunday, 23 governors and 237 legislators of the Regional legislative Councils will be elected.

The minister said that in the presidential elections on October 7, there was a good management response, because the voting tables had electrical services and there were minimum faults that were fixed on time.

He said that based on that experience, they have formed well-prepared teams to respond to the contingencies that might arise, for which they are working together with the Strategic Operational Command and soldiers of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, guaranteeing security at the voting centers.

“We are very well prepared right now to face up to any contingency,” said Navarro.
