The best response to terrorism is to uproot its causes, refrain from supporting, arming and from implementing it as a tool to punish or penalize independent countries. The recent heinous terrorist attacks in France are strongly in all forms, languages and means deplorable, barbaric and condemnable. For Syrians, under the scourge and plague of terrorism for decades, the terrorist attacks in France are considered as barbaric attacks against the entire globe.
Yes, the majority of Syrians contempt, abhor and do reject terrorism in all of its forms against whoever might be. This is why, the leadership of Syria was the first worldwide in the eighties to call for a conference as to define and combat terrorism as well as to define and draw sharp distinctions between terrorism and people’s right to resistance. And this is why, President Bashar Al-Assad, who is fighting terrorism on behalf of the whole world, has been pioneering every effort to eradicate this evil to the extent that he himself went to the frontlines, few meters away from terrorists in Jobar as to challenge, fight and defy their supporters! Fighting terrorism for us is a question of life or death; it is a moral question of principles.
Personally, I was so much excited to watch such a huge crowd in condemnation of terrorism; this would please every true human being. I watched the crowds as a sharp cry against terrorism worldwide in France, Syria, Britain, Lebanon …and in Palestine. There should be no double standards when it comes to human values and standards. The French blood is in no way more expensive than others’! The scorpion of terrorism is indeed the black death of modern times. I almost heard the crowds shouting for an end to sanctions imposed upon the Syrians, an end to terrorism support in Syria!
When many of the world leaders and representatives in today’s Paris demonstration are themselves responsible for Charlie Massacre, how could it be sane to believe the leaders’ words which diametrically contrast their deeds on the ground, particularly in Syria? What are the representatives of the countries and monarchies, mini-states doing in Paris? Is it possible to believe that the participation of some among those leaders who flagrantly violate UN Security Council resolutions and violate every international legitimacy to ally themselves with Al-Qaeda affiliates, as well as to arm and train al-Nusra, and Daesh, founded by some of the participants!
Syria, whose Army has been fighting multi-national terrorists of more than 80 countries, including France, has vehemently condemned the terrorist attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine and offered heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and their colleagues. The attack showed indeed the dangers of the spread of extremist terrorism which poses a threat to the stability and security of the world as a whole.
Hopefully, Today’s blessed anti-terrorism march in Paris would be a jump-start in unifying and coordinating anti-terrorism international efforts in commitment to combating all forms of terrorism according to International legitimacy, the latest of which were UN Security Council resolutions 2170 and 2178 and accountability of countries which have been providing all kinds of support to the terrorist groups in light of Mr. Holland’s assertion that “Paris is the capital of the world today,” and Premier Valls assertions that France was at “war against terrorists, Jihadists, Islamic fundamentalism.” If Mr. Fabius’s words that “The fight against terrorism is a global cause,” it is expected that the for long extended hands for goodness, fraternity, equality, friendship and reciprocity would be shaken in the interest of peace, security and stability.
