Iran will always stand by Lebanon in the fight against Israel’s aggression and terrorism, says the Iranian foreign minister.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported dialog, mutual understanding and national unity in Lebanon and along with the Lebanese government, army, people and resistance will stand against Zionist aggression, terrorism and extremism,” Mohammad Javad Zarif said in meeting with a delegation of distinguished religious figures from Lebanon in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Wednesday.
A central plank of Iran’s foreign policy is to “back pure Islam and the cause of Palestine irrespective of sectarian leanings,” said Zarif.
For his part, Sheikh Ahmad al-Zein, the head of the delegation, said that religious scholars in Lebanon have always insisted on Muslims’ unity and defended the Palestinian cause and will continue to stick to their beliefs and practices.
Muslim scholars have used Iran as a role model to foster unity and counter the enemy’s divisive plots, Sheikh Hassan Abdullah, the secretary general of Lebanon’s Muslim Scholars Gathering, said.
Sheikh Zahir al Jaeed, the secretary general of the Islamic Action Front of Lebanon, also appreciated Iran’s support for the Lebanese resistance movements and the Palestinian cause.
The Lebanese delegation is in Iran to attend the 28th International Islamic Unity Conference in the Iranian capital.
Hundreds of Muslim scholars and intellectuals from more than 60 countries are attending the conference titled Unified Islamic Ummah: Challenges and Strategies.
The participants will discuss ways to promote unity and solidarity in the Muslim world and will focus on problems facing the Islamic world, such as the threat posed by Takfiri militants.
Iran never to stop supporting Palestine, resistance movement, says Abdollahian
Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry deputy for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian underscored Iran’s support for the Palestinian resistance.
He made the remarks in a meeting with the member of Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, political bureau Jamal Issa here Thursday.
He said Iran will never stop providing support to Palestine and its resistance groups.
The official said that Iran’s view toward resistance is a strategic and principled one which is also detailed and precise.
The issue of Palestine and the Holy Qods has always been a major obsession with Iran and at the top of its foreign policy agenda, he added.
Pointing to the crimes of the Tel Aviv regime, he said Iran’s backing for the resistance in Palestine is based on the achievements of its own Islamic Republic and its broad outlook of the issue which is based on religious and ideological fundamentals.
The foreign ministry official further stressed the need for the Palestinian resistance groups to strengthen their Jihadi readiness for adopting quite destructive stands against the enemies.
He further hailed the Palestinian resistance efforts to promote solidarity and reinforce resistance during the last Zionist war against Gaza which lasted for 51 days.
Abdollahian said the destiny of Palestine and the necessity of materialization of its righteous cause are of prime importance for Iran.
He stressed that Iran will use all its capacity to support the Palestinian cause against the Zionist regime actions.
