Premier: Syrian-Iranian Economic Cooperation Witness Constant Development

DAMASCUS, (ST)-The Syrian-Iranian economic and trade ties are witnessing constant development that affirms the keenness of the two countries on enhancing their deeply-rooted political relations, Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi stressed during his meeting yesterday with  Rustum Qasemi, Chairman of the Syrian-Iranian Economic Committee.

 Hailing the supportive stances of the Iranian people, leadership and government towards the Syrian people and leadership, the Premier said “this support has greatly helped Syria withstand the foreign-backed terrorist war and has solidified the steadfastness of the axis of resistance which has been confronting the Zionist-American and western schemes against the region.

Al-Halqi reiterated that 2015 will be the year of victories for the axis of resistance and all peoples of the world who suffer terrorism plus western and Zionist hegemony.  

On his part, Qasemi asserted that Iran and Syria are standing at the same confrontation line against the Zionist-American schemes in the region and that the Iranian government won’t hesitate in providing all forms of support to the Syrian people and leadership.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam, the Cabinet Secretary General Tayseer al-Zou’bi, Syria’s Ambassador to Iran Adnan Mahmoud and the Iranian  Ambassador in Damascus  Mohammad Riza Shibani.

Earlier, during his meeting with the Iranian trade and economic delegation, al-Halqi talked about the great efforts being exerted by Syria and Iran to boost cooperation, urging Iranian businessmen and companies to carry out development projects in Syria and to participate in the country’s process of reconstruction side by side with the Syrian national firms.

Qasemi, on his part, affirmed Iran’s keenness to consolidate cooperation with Syria as to strengthen its steadfastness in the face of the unjust economic siege imposed on the Syrian people.

Ministers of presidential affairs, agriculture, oil, industry, economy, foreign trade and transport attended the meeting in addition to Chairman of the Planning and International Cooperation Commission and the ambassadors of the two countries. 

Following the meeting, an official round of talks was held between the two sides under the co-chairmanship of the Cabinet Secretary General Tayseer al-Zou’bi for the Syrian side and Qasemi for the Iranian side. 

Talks dealt with the situation of the economic and trade relations, the results of the two sides’ previous meetings in Tehran and ways to expand cooperation to include the sectors of agriculture, oil, energy, health, medicine, industry, housing and investment.
