Upon President al-Assad’s directives, Syria’s ambassador in Lebanon offers condolences to Karami’s family

Upon President Bashar al-Assad’s directives, Syria’s Ambassador to Beirut Ali Abdul Karim has offered condolences to the family of former Prime Minister Omar Karami, who died today morning.

Karami’s family highly appreciated President al-Assad’s gesture, hoping that Syria will achieve victory over terrorism and that security and peace will be restored to it.

The former Lebanese PM Omar Karami passed away today at the age of 80 from a long illness.

His family said in a statement released today: “We have lost a precious person and the best husband, father and grandfather.”

Karami was Prime Minister of Lebanon for the first time from 24 December 1990, when Salim al-Hoss gave up power, until 13 May 1992, when he resigned due to economic instability.

He was sworn in again on 26 October 2004

The body of late Karami will be buried on Friday at noon at the family’s cemetery in Tripoli’s Bab al-Ramel neighborhood, according to media sources.

An official three-day period of mourning was declared and flags on every public building would fly at half-mast for three days from Friday to mourn the death of ex-PM Karami.
