TEHRAN, (ST) _ Head of the Iranian Shura Council, Ali Larijani, stressed that countries in the region should make efforts to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria, given that terrorism is a “dilemma” for each of these countries.
“The situation has improved a lot in Syria, and is taken positive steps forward,” Larijani said in a statement yesterday, at Mehrabad Tehran airport on his return from a tour included Syria, Lebanon and Iraq, noting that the convergence that has been established between Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Iran is very appropriate for all countries of the region in the axis of resistance or in the opposition.
He explained that he discussed with officials in these countries means of combating terrorism, at the political and security levels, pointing out continued consultations and coordination between the countries of the region in the fight against terrorism.
On his visit to Lebanon, Larijani pointed out that the Lebanese army and the resistance monitor the movement of terrorists, pointing out that Lebanon is able to confront terrorism.
Regarding his visit to Iraq, Larijani said that Iraq has become politically quieter and is maintaining consensus and national unity, calling for a crack down of Daesh organization in Iraq and support for counter-terrorism operations in southern, central and northern Iraq.
He pointed out mechanisms promoted also to combat terrorism in northern Iraq, adding that “the countries of the region became aware that terrorism is a problem for all, and would increase its threats.”
On Monday, during his visit to Damascus, Larijani stressed his country’s support for the efforts aimed “to advance national dialogue among the Syrians, provides for Syria’s sovereignty and unity of its people, away from foreign interference,” stressing that “the Iranian people will not hesitate to provide all forms of support to Syria to promote her steadfastness and fighting terrorism and its supporters.”
