Christmas sermons have stressed that national unity is the secret of Syria’s steadfastness and the guarantee for its progress.
During masses held at various churches in Damascus, Aleppo, Idlib, Lattakia, Sweida, Hassaka, Tartous, Homs, Hama, and Daraa on the occasion of Christmas, the participants prayed for peace and the release of the two kidnapped bishops.
Officials participated in the masses during which Patriarch and bishops called all Syrians to unify in the face of the conspiracy.
The masses held in the heart of the old city of Homs after cleansing it of Takfiri terrorists prove Syrian people’s determination to live together in peace.
It was hard for Christian community to express joy where there is so much suffering across the country which is facing a terror war supported by some regional and international regimes.
Plot
On November 25, 2013, Syria appealed to the UN Security council to fulfill its role in preventing a plot that aims at making the Middle East region free of Christian community.
It stressed that it is keen on practicing its constitutional duty in protecting its citizens –Muslims and Christians- from the armed terrorist groups’ crimes.
The Takfiri terrorist organizations have devastated dozens of churches and mosques nationwide.
Symbol of peace
Here, we echo statement made by Tourism Minister Besher Riad Yazigi: “When the world considers Syria’s ancient and venerable history, remembering that the world’s oldest peace agreement was forged here in ancient times to prohibit violence in the Land of Mary, in accordance with the findings of Tel Mardikh in Ebla, and that the dove and green bough were first drawn here as a symbol for peace to prohibit killing and assault, then none will wonder that today the Syrian people patiently and courageously defy the international terrorist forces now targeting the country and their historical archeological treasures, which are the heritage of all humanity.”
