DAMASCUS, (ST) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform signed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding with the Syrian Investment Authority about encouraging investment in organic production.
The memo provides for the exchange of information with respect to investment in the field of organic production and coordination for the development of investment opportunities for this product on the investment map and participate in various activities, such as seminars and conferences, local and international shows.
The memo focuses on the exchange of information and experiences between the two parties in the preparation of the economic feasibility of investment opportunities and implements activities in support of investment in organic production.
The Chairperson of the Syrian Investment Authority Eng. Hala Ghazal pointed out that signing the memorandum stimulates investment in the field of food security, creates more investment opportunities and to get a certificate of Syrian origin in the global markets.
“The Authority works to diversify investment opportunities and creates new opportunities in the field of food security,” she said.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Louay Aslan pointed out that the organic product is “free from chemical product,” noting that the ministry has developed a plan in the coming agricultural cultivation to plant 35,000 hectares of organic production including all kinds of plants.
He explained that the memorandum of understanding contributes to deepen the concept of organic farming and securing legislative, technical, legal, marketing and product requirements, especially after the issuance of Decree 12 of 2012.
“This product carries additional value in terms of lower production costs and higher prices in the market and reduces the costs of fertilizers and pesticides and the transition to a clean environment.
