Larijani in Damascus: Political Solution, Based on Democratic Principles, the Syrians’ Will is the Way Out of crisis in Syria

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Political solution, based on democratic principles and the Syrian people’s will is the way to solve the crisis in Syria, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Ali Larijani has stressed.

Upon his arrival in Damascus today, Larijani said the Syrians should be united and make a decision to protect the future of their country.

The Iranian official, who was welcomed at the Damascus International Airport Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham, told reporters that his visit to Syria aimed at providing support for the Syrian government and people, at discussing the current situation in the region and at making consultations on solving pending political issues.

He hoped that efforts being exerted in the region will put an end to the crisis in Syria.

Earlier and before leaving Tehran, Larijani, whose four-day visit to the region includes Syria, Lebanon and Iraq, said the terrorists in Syria and Iraq have cause chaos and crises, pointing out that “security and stability are main factors for development and economic growth.”

He regretted attempts by some countries in the West and the region to create chaos in other countries, hoping that talks with Syrian, Iraqi and Lebanese officials will provide strategies to combat terrorism and solutions to the crises.

On his visit to Iraq, the Iranian official said Iran and Iraq has identical views on regional and international issues, noting that he will discuss with Iraqi officials ways to enhance trade exchange between the two countries.
