Former Japanese Ambassador to Syria: West Played negative Role in Deepening Crisis

TOKYO,(ST)_ Former Japanese ambassador to Syria Masaaki Kontida stressed that Western countries played a role in creating proper conditions in deepening the crisis in Syria by forming “political opposition and armed groups” as well as imposing sanctions on Syria, blaming the media for being responsible for the crisis through its negative role in this regard.

This came in a book by the former Japanese ambassador in Damascus entitled ” modern history and the ongoing Syrian crisis,” pointing to the negative role played by the media in promoting terms such as  “peaceful revolutions” against the “demonization” of governments.

He added that “ international parties proceeded to intervene in the crisis in Syria, according to their interests, giving no consideration to the principles of international law by interference in the affairs of the sovereignty of nations,” adding that the UN bears responsibility for that.

He shed light on the weakness and disintegration of the Syrian political opposition, by virtue of the control of armed terrorist groups and its use of violence and brutality to achieve its main objective to establish the so called Islamic state.

 Ambassador Kontida talked about Syria before the crisis when he was ambassador in Damascus, noting that President Bashar al-Assad encouraged various Syrian social strata to participate in the political and economic reform processes and worked to achieve the principle of equal opportunities for all citizens, but the crisis came to ignite sedition, noting that “Syria is a secular country where there are no differences between the sects and religions.”
