IAEA Should Act Professionally, Impartially, Says Najafi

Tehran – Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative in International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi underlined that the agency should act professionally and impartially.

He also criticized IAEA’s ‘unofficial’ refusal of Tehran’s proposal to inspect the alleged site of Marivan.

Najafi told IRNA on Thursday evening, the agency has apparently sent an email to Reuters News Agency to refuse Iran’s proposal to visit alleged site of Marivan.

He added that the agency cannot evade its responsibility just by sending an email to a news agency.

The envoy stressed that the agency, in its report on November 2011, has made a claim but in Iran’s view, it is the same as its other claims.

This kind of acting by IAEA confirms Iran’s view that proposed claim in the November 2011 report had no basis, otherwise the agency should have dispatched its team to Iran immediately after Iran’s offer, not to refuse it in this unofficial form.

Now, the only way is that the agency declare impartially and professionally that presented information by a country or member countries concerning experimental explosions in the region of Marivan was wrong, and the agency cannot act for its claim to verify the alleged site in the Marivan region, said Najafi.

He underlined that in Iran’s view, solving the issue would be a test to show the agency’s impartiality.
