MOSCOW, (ST)-The Lebanese Army has detained a wife and one of the sons of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the so-called Islamic States in Iraq and Levant (ISIL), The Lebanese “As-Safir” newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The newspaper which described the attack as a pre-emptive strike by the Lebanese army against Daesh terrorist organization, said the detainees were arrested as they entered Lebanon from Syria.
Baghdadi’s wife, who was traveling on a fake passport, was taken to the Lebanese Defense Ministry headquarters for investigation, the newspaper added.
Earlier, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was reported critically wounded in a US-led airstrike on November 8.
The ISIL, which has been fighting the Syrian government over the past two years, extended its attacks into northern and western Iraq, declaring a so-called “caliphate” on the territories over which it had control.
The US-led international coalition is currently conducting airstrikes against ISIL targets both in Iraq and Syria.
