Discovery in Sweida A New Archaeological

The national Mission for Excavation has found recently in the archeological Nabati village of Ci’a  new discoveries which date back to the Romanian era .

The discoveries are five different pieces of coins. The coins which are affiliated to the Romanian Empire refer to the advanced position the empire occupied during its time.

According to the archaeological researches, the coins will play main role in enriching our knowledge about the social, economic and political life of the Romanian empire’s inhabitants.

Director of the Archaeological and Museums Department in Sweida Hussien Zin eddin gave importance for the coins role in giving us a detailed explanation on the Romanian empire’s ways of life, namely in the economic field, according to him the coins will also give us a new information on the Nabati era.

” we are in need for a specialist team regarding carrying out a detailed study on these coins and their references .” the director said , adding that the coins are constituting an important picture on an ancient civilization that took place in our lands.

” the excavation works which lasted for two years concentrated on Ci’a village due to the existence of clear clues dating back to the Romanian Empire in the archaeological site, including the famous Nabati Gate and the First yard or what called as the ”Taytron Gate” in the western part of the mountainous village of Ci’a.” the Director also added .

The coins carried distinguished paints and picture, including the picture of the first lady ” Jolian M” in addition to various pictures of ancient goddess, namely the head of Tho-alsara goddess.

 It is noteworthy that the coins are issued by the southern city of Bosra.

The national mission also found coins that carry the picture of the Emperor Markous Orilous 280-283 after Christ (AD), including during his meeting with the God of Sun .

Among the coins there are a third kind related to the period of the emperor Dia-Qlitanous 284-305 after Christ.

Members of the national mission also found a forth kind of coins. The 4th kind carry the picture of the emperor Qistantine 305-337 AD.

The 4th kind of coins are issued by Rome.

Fifth kind of coins also was found by the mission during the excavation works.

 For his part the researcher in the archaeological field WAlid abu- Raid also confirmed the coins importance in revealing further knowledge on the social, economic, political life during the Romanian Empire.

”The coins will also give us a good opportunity for collecting further data on the Ci’a village ‘s relations with its surroundings. ” The researcher concluded.
