MOSCOW,(ST)_ Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed in a telephone call with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shukry yesterday the situation concerning the crisis in Syria.
Talks also addressed the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, according to a statement by the Russian foreign ministry.
For his part, spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Badr Abdul Ati said in a statement yesterday that Lavrov and Shukri discussed ways to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria that ensures cooperation in combating terrorism and meets the aspirations of the Syrian people.
Abdul Ati pointed out that the Egyptian and Russian ministers also discussed the situation in Iraq, Libya, and ways to restore security and stability in the two countries as well as the deteriorating conditions in the Palestinian territories.
On the other hand, the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry added that the Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov met with the Saudi ambassador in Moscow, Ali Hassan Jaafar and discussed with him issues on bilateral and regional agendas .
Meantime, Alexander Ukashevc, spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry announced yesterday that talks will be conducted by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with Saudi Arabia foreign minister , Saud al-Faisal, in Moscow today , pointing out that the talks will deal with the situation in Syria, Libya and Iraq as well as Iran’s nuclear file.
Bogdanov discussed Kaag results of implementing proliferation of chemical weapons in Syria
Meanwhile, Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and African countries affairs , and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed yesterday with the head of the joint mission of the UN Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Sigrid Kaag results of the process of eliminating chemical weapons in Syria.
In a statement yesterday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that , ” Kaag expressed gratitude for for Russia ‘s contribution to the collective efforts in taking part in the destruction of chemical weapons in Syria.”
Worthy mentioning that, the UN joint Mission of the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in Syria ended its work officially on September 30 . Kaag considered the completion of this process as an unprecedented achievement in the history of the Organization , stressing that this great achievement would not have been possible without the great efforts and close cooperation of the Syrian government with the UN joint mission.
