Hammami: Restoring Relations between Syria and Tunisia, Imperative

TUNISIA, (ST)_ Candidate for the upcoming Tunisian presidential elections Himmat al-Hammami renewed emphasis on the need to restore relations between Syria and Tunisia.

In a statement to the Tunisian al-Jawhara FM Radio yesterday Hammami stressed that, “restoration of relations with Syria is one of the urgent measures that need to be made.”

 

Hammami, a Tunisian leftist candidate for the Tunisian Popular Front called for further strengthening of relations with the brotherly countries like Iraq, Libya and others.

” A new and clear Tunisian diplomatic doctrine should be existed, based on taking into account the interests of the Tunisians, “he said.

Earlier this month, Tayeb Baccouche, Secretary General of the Tunisian Movement Appeal party which won the recent parliamentary elections confirmed that his party will work to restore relations with Syria, immediately after the formation of the new government, pointing out that severing diplomatic ties is a political blunder.

Noteworthy, that the Tunis Appeal movement won in the recent legislative elections by the majority of the parliament seats and got 85 seats, ahead of the Muslim brotherhood al-Nahda movement.
