NEW YORK, (ST)_Bashar al-Jaafari has described the submission of resolutions drafted by Qatar and Saudi Arabia on human rights situation in Syria as ‘odd paradox’.
Syria’s Representative to the United Nations clarified that hundreds of reports and remarks have unveiled that the Qatari and Saudi regimes alongside their Turkish alley have been involved in fueling violence, bringing international terrorism into Syria and hindering political solution to the ongoing crisis in it.
“last June and October, CNN screened two reports documenting the role of Saudi and Qatari regimes in supporting and funding terrorist organizations in Syria, including al-Qaeda-linked organizations such as al-Nusra Front and the Daesh [ISIS],” he said in a statement before the third committee discussing draft resolution ‘L31’ on Human rights in Syria.
Clues
The veteran diplomat indicated that other reports proved the strong relation between Qatar and Israel with regard to their support for al-Nusra Front in Syria and the abduction of U.N. peacekeepers in the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan.
He reminded of the U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden’s recent remarks on the involvement of the Turkish and Saudi regimes and other Gulf regimes in supporting and funding terrorism in Syria.
“Saudi Arabia ranked second after Tunisia in the list of states that export terrorism to Syria in accordance with a report released by the London-based International Centre for the Study of Radicalization,” al-Jaafari stated.
According to the report, Tunisians make up the largest group (estimated at about 3,000), followed by those from Saudi Arabia (about 2,500) and Morocco (1,500).
The total number of foreign fighters in Syria at present is between 11,000 and 12,000, with only about 3,000 of them from the West.
“Other remarks by the international Interpol officials stressed that the Turkish government facilitates the flow of thousands of foreign mercenaries and terrorists into Syria and sets up training camps for them in Turkish territories,” al-Jaafari said.
Age of ignorance
He wondered how Saudi Arabia submits a draft resolution supporting the UN envoy Staffan De Mistura’s mission while it rejects receiving him.
“Saudi regime has chosen to go ahead with fueling violence, terrorism and extremism through supporting terrorists and training them and providing them with chemical weapons,” the diplomat added.
He underscore that those who have submitted the draft resolution L31 on Syria seek to systematically undermine co-existence in Syria and bring it back to the age of jahilya, or ignorance, to implement Saudi laws that prevent woman from all her rights and discriminate between Saudis on the basis of skin color, race and sect.
In addition, al-Jaafari referred to the 100-page report released by the ‘Gulf Strategic Studies’ Institute in Washington as an example that shows the violations of Saudi citizens’ rights in the eastern areas in the kingdom.
He called on the U.N. member states to vote against the draft resolution L31 that criticize human rights situation in Syria, adding that the Saudi and Qatari delegations received telephone calls from ambassadors of the U.S., UK and Turkey urging them to submit the resolution.
Some states that support international terrorism foils every joint effort to defeat ISIS
Later on, the official news agency (SANA) quoted al-Jaafari as saying: ” some states that support international terrorism foils every joint effort to defeat ISIS.”
Speaking in a U.N. session on ‘terror threat to international peace and security, the diplomat clarified that al-Qaeda and its branches have been spread because of Saudi sponsorship.
He stressed that the U.N. Security Council adopted no measures against the governments that support terrorism.
“Syria is looking forwards to an active role by the United Nations to put an end to the ISIS supporters.”
