Syria, FAO Discuss Agricultural Cooperation

DAMASCUS, (ST) – Minister of Interior Trade and Consumer Protection Hassan Majid Safiyya and the United Nations’ Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Eriko Hebe and her accompanying delegation discussed here means of developing and strengthening cooperation in the field of ensuring the needs of the agricultural sector.

 

The minister stressed the important role of the organization in providing technical and humanitarian aid to the Syrian people and strengthening their steadfastness in the current circumstances, pointing out the size of the losses and damage hit the sector of internal trade and consumer protection.

For her part, The Representative indicated concern for providing continued support and urgent humanitarian aid to the Syrian people, noting the role of the Ministry in strengthening cooperation between the two parties and the work for making the delegation’s mission a success in Syria.

The two sides reviewed the forms of support provided by the organization and the types of technical and humanitarian aid in light of the unjust war experienced by Syria and the needs of the agricultural sector.

They also discussed the possibility of the FAO’s assistance in rehabilitation, restoration and processing mills, silos and bakeries in a number of provinces.
